Our Generation Portfolio
Etana Energy is rapidly scaling its generation portfolio to provide South African businesses with flexible, reliable, and cost-competitive renewable energy. In a 12-month period, we successfully reached financial close on more than 500MW of renewable energy nameplate capacity, spanning two wind farms and two solar PV project. Additionally, we have a hydroelectric power facility in operation wheeling energy across the grid through our proprietary trading platform. By providing customer access to Etana’s wind-heavy generation portfolio, customers will enjoy round-the-clock renewable energy supply, reduced operational and market risk, and market-leading savings.
Boston Hydroelectric Plant
The Boston Hydroelectric Plant achieve commercial operation in October 2025 and supplies renewable electricity to Growthpoint through Etana Energy’s trading platform. The plant will generate approximately 30GWh of renewable electricity annually, providing reliable 24/7 baseload renewable power with an expected operational lifetime of more than 40 years.
The project forms part of Etana’s renewable portfolio supplying Growthpoint Properties and its tenants through the Growthpoint’s eco₂ programme. Additionally, Growthpoint has committed to purchasing 195GWh of renewable electricity annually from Etana‘s broader generation portfolio currently in construction.

Du Plessis Dam Solar PV2
The Du Plessis Dam Solar PV2 project marks Etana Energy’s first solar project as an offtaker and a key milestone in scaling the company’s renewable generation portfolio.
The project reached financial close in March 2025 and will add 75MW of new renewable electricity capacity to South Africa’s grid. Construction began in April 2025 and is set to start supplying electricity to Etana’s customers through its trading platform in 2026.
Du Plessis Dam PV2 is also the first project to utilise Etana’s R2.8 billion payment guarantee facility, unlocked through guarantees issued by Standard Bank, British Internal Investment (BII) and Norfund. This financing structure strengthens the bankability of renewable projects and supports the development of new generation capacity for large electricity users.

Zen and Bergrivier Wind Farms
The Zen and Bergrivier wind farms form a cornerstone of Etana’s renewable generation portfolio and provide significant wind capacity to the trading platform.
The projects reached financial close in December 2026, with commissioning expected in mid-2027. Once operational, they will generate approximately 580GWh of renewable electricity annually under a 20-year agreement.
Wind generation plays a critical role in complementing solar production by delivering electricity during high-value evening and early-morning periods, improving the overall supply profile available to businesses and resilience to future market changes.
The projects will displace approximately 600,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, equivalent to removing more than 225,000 cars from the road.

Capacity: Zen (100MW) and Bergrivier (94MW), delivering a combined export capacity of 190MW
Location: Between Gouda and Saron, Western Cape
Status: In construction
Project partners: Built and majority-owned (51%) by ACCIONA Energía, alongside a joint venture between H1 Capital and Chariot Limited (49%).
Orkney Solar Project
The Orkney Solar Project represents one of the largest solar facilities supplying Etana’s trading platform.
The project achieved financial close in February 2026. Once operational, the Orkney project is expected to produce around 478GWh of renewable electricity annually, which will be wheeled to Etana’s customers via the national and municipal distribution networks.
The supply will displace over 500,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year, which is equivalent to removing around 140,000 internal combustion engine vehicles from the road. This is the second project that has achieved financial close between Etana Energy and Mulilo in 12 months and is testament to the strength and speed that can be achieved through partnership.
