A South African Renewable Energy Juggernaut
H1 Holdings is a 100% black-owned and managed investment company based in South Africa which was founded in 2000, and with a strong focus on power projects with a high ESG impact. H1 has a diversified portfolio of 2.8GW of renewable energy generation assets, including a hybrid project portfolio with 1.1GWh of battery storage, of which 1.9GW is in operation, and the rest in construction.

Owned & Funded By The Norwegian Government
Norfund, the Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries, is dedicated to creating jobs and improving lives by investing in businesses that drive sustainable development. Norfund focuses on sectors such as clean energy, financial institutions, and green infrastructure. Norfund invests in renewable energy to increase energy access and supply in developing countries. It supports projects in solar, wind, hydropower, biomass, and geothermal energy, aiming to accelerate the transition towards a carbon-neutral economy.

In 2024, we secured a landmark R1.8 billion guarantee facility with GuarantCo (part of the Private Infrastructure Development Group) and British International Investment (BII), the UK’s development finance institution.  

Standard Bank, Africa’s largest bank has also provided a R1  billion payment guarantee facility.

Our Trading Licence

Etana was issued an energy trading licence by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) in May 2022. This license authorises Etana to buy and sell electricity in South Africa, on both Eskom and municipal electricity networks (where wheeling tariffs are in place).
